ISPO Munich 2019 | Performance and ecology not a contradiction
Sustainability is booming. The topic inspires exhibitors and visitors alike once again at ISPO Munich this year. Jeremy Jones Snowboarder & Founder Protect Our Winters “We have more and more solutions for climate change. And we just need to start embracing those solutions and incentivize people and companies that do embrace those solutions.” One example for sustainable manufacturing is Sympatex, the membrane specialist. Together with volunteers, employees diligently gather plastic rubbish that will be immediately processed into an exhibit within a few hours. Rüdiger Fox CEO SympaTex „Here at the booth we just wanted to show what we can produce out of the plastic bottles we found here and what a recycled shoe might look like in the future.“ The manufacturer Vaude, shows us just how sustainable the world of sports already is. They present a jacket made of 100% recycled material. Benedikt Tröster PR Manager VAUDE „Performance and ecology are not a contradiction for us. So the down, is just as functional as in a normal down jacket. We just use available material in a new way. The down comes from old bedclothes or old down jackets; these are then processed, cleaned and re-filled.” But sustainability offers much more. With their new „Futurelight“ outerwear fabric, The North Face proves that sustainable use of materials can even improve performance. Michael Horsch Senior Director Product & Merchandising The North Face „The traditional membrane in your jacket weighs approximately 40g. With Futurelight we have reduced that to 5g. You will notice that it ‘s significantly more breathable, than any waterproof jacket you have ever worn.” The demand for sustainable products is growing and manufacturers are reacting to this with innovative ideas and developments. Jeremy Jones Snowboarder & Founder Protect Our Winters “Live an examined life. Understand your Footprint on the planet. When you do get to make a purchase, support companies, that are running a cleaner company, a sustainable company.” Thanks to its exhibitors, ISPO Munich offers a deep insight into the world of sustainable products and manufacturing processes.
